The Birth of the Sassy Seven: Sometimes all it takes to make the world a brighter place is a bottle or ten of choco wine and a handful of friends who make you laugh! That has definitely been my experience with a group of ladies known as the Sassy Seven. We firmed up our spectacular friendship at EC's Romanticon last year and by the end of the conference we simply KNEW that we couldn't just see each other once a year. Funny how these things happen but the group of us just clicked. Age differences or life experiences didn't deter us a bit. In fact, it's our differences that seem to make us stronger and closer. I love that about my friends.
Now let me tell you about my friends!
Desiree Holt- feisty, sassy and uber talented. Don't dis her friends or she'll come at you like a spider monkey on crack. I so admire her. She is kind, gorgeous and such a support to all who know her...yes, generous. She is the author of eleventy-gazillion smoking hot books and I credit this amazing woman with my foray into writing erotic romance. Any success I may enjoy, I owe to her. Love doesn't begin to cover how I feel about this wonderful woman.
Cerise Deland- classy, refined and intelligent. Beautiful...mustn't forget beautiful and sooo very talented that I drool when she has a new release. As a friend, CD is a ROCK and believe me, I've leaned against that rock a time or two.
Nicole Austin- one tall, cool customer. Gorgeous as heck with a tomboy attitude that doesn't begin to hide the sexy woman lurking beneath. Nic is quiet (most of the time) and you just know when you speak she is really listening. Talented. (Have you noticed I keep mentioning TALENT? Well, there's a reason for that). I couldn't ask for a truer friend.
Samantha Cayto- quiet, intelligent to the max, classy. I loved her at first meeting and later, as our friendship grew, I was struck by her deep, deep love for her children. Yes, I notice stuff like that and her devotion to them won her a permanent place in my heart. (I don't think I've ever told her that.) There are a million reasons to love this woman (her talent, her warmth) yet this is the thing I would mention first if ever asked to describe WHY I love her so much.
Brenna Zinn- where do I start. She is beyond beautiful...that perfect face, soft smile that makes you just go WOW is so winning that I instantly adored her. I soon leaned that she has a wicked sense of humor that kind of jumps up out of nowhere and smacks you in the face until you simply die laughing. Classy and bawdy all at once..that's Brenna. I could spend hours with her and never, ever be bored. Often she writes, just out of the blue, to ask how I am when she knows I might be stressed by life.
Allie Standifer- yes, she is a stellar writer but I often wonder if she missed her true calling. Allie is possibly the funniest woman on the planet and could have had quite a career as a comedienne. Thankfully, she writes so we can enjoy her amazing talent. What many don't know about Allie (and the reason I love her so much) is that in quieter moments and in times of trouble, she is often the first to call. Loyal to the max! That's my Allie and why she occupies a special place in my heart.
In the beginning, it was Desiree Holt, Cerise Deland, Allie Standifer, Nicole Austin, Samanth Cayto and myself. Little did we know then that we'd add yet another impossibly wonderful friend into the mix. Brenna Zinn came along to complete our zany group and the rest, as they say, is history.
Once we'd determined we just HAD to see each other at least every four months, we plotted, planned and eventually decided to meet at Camp Holt, Des's own beautiful spot in the Texas Hill Country. February brought Allie's birthday and we figured that celebrating the occassion would be the perfect opportunity to get us all together again. That's when I first met the delightfully adorable Brenna. Instant clickification, folks. Love love love her. We all do. Nic flew in from Florida and our very own New Englander, Sam Cayto joined us too. As mentioned in earlier posts, we lolled around the place, laptops open, stuffing our faces, indulging in chocolate wine, and laughing...omg...laughing until tears poured. Yeah, more instant clickification.
Our Addiction:
Here's the story on our chocolate wine addiction. Yes, we are all happy addicts of the creamy, chocolatey, red-wine based heaven-in-a glass. I'd been introduced to the drink of the gods by one of my daughters college roomies. Fell in love instantly and so when I headed south to Des's place, I picked up half a dozen bottles as my contribution to the festivities. Umm. All I can say is, during our visit to Camp Holt we headed into town for MORE. Lushes, much? :-)

Perhaps the highlight of the long long weekend was our Toy Party. Yes, sex toys. Toys for grown up girls and boys. Imagine seven drunk-on-their-cute-butts erotica writers among a bevy of toys that whir and buzz!!!! Oh yeah. A perfect recipe for laughter and lots and lots of book ideas. It was there that we came up with the idea of writing Toys 4 Us about a group of friends who leave a sex toy party with very naughty ideas about what to do with their purchases (all stuffed into pretty pink bags).

Btw, gotta admit... I have been to a sex toy party (or two) in the past. Had a fun time, all around! I almost pee'd myself laughing when the demonstrator told my neighbor, here, try these on over your jeans. (Beth was super super skinny...recovering anorexic) She did, and the leopard print thong was just so WRONG over jeans! Beth about went thru the roof when the remote was activated and the hidden egg vibrated RIGHT where it was supposed to be. I laughed worse at that! Beth jumped up yelled HOLY SHIT! and then grinned so big I thought she'd split her face.
All y'all are just great ladies. I'm so glad I have gotten to know some of you! And Regina...you to, are a very special lady. Even if you DID get me hooked on cotton candy vodka!

Hot, edgy and humorous are all elements that go together wonderfully. All the authors that have come together to create the Toys 4 Us series sound like a lot of fun.
