Do you believe in magic? Or are you at least fascinated by it? I think a lot of readers are, considering how popular the magic/supernatural/paranormal genres are now. I incorporated magic into FERAL (my December Berkley Heat) in a fun and unique way.
The hero is from the Seminole Nation, and while I was researching Seminole folklore, I came across references to the sapiya, which are magic stones that can jump around like fleas and multiply by themselves. They’re temperamental little objects that will turn on you if you don’t respect their medicine. They need to be fed with animal blood and watered with fresh dew. They can also bring anyone you want to your door.
I got hooked on the sapiya and kept searching for more information about them. But that was pretty much all I uncovered. Nonetheless, I wanted them to be part of my book, so I let them come alive on my pages in whatever manner they chose. That often happens with characters in a book and it was especially interesting with the sapiya. I very much enjoyed the process.
I’ve had experiences with magic stones of my own. Recently, someone tried to purposely foist some negative energy my way and a friend suggested that I get a citrine stone. Citrine is known to dissipate negative energy. It’s also called the “success stone” because it promotes success, prosperity, and abundance.
I ordered one online and when it arrived, I immediately felt better. Just knowing that it was in my possession created a good feeling.
About a month later, I took a trip with a family member and we stopped at a metaphysical store that was located in a quaint mountain town. A perfect setting. A perfect place to acquire more stones.
This is what I got:
Green Tea Agate—A powerful healing stone. It can be used anywhere on the body.
Quartz Crystal—Amplifies the power of any other stone that is carried with it. Healing stone. Meditation stone. Most powerful psychic enhancer and channeling stone.
Rose Quartz—The most powerful love stone. It gives inner peace and helps promote and maintain love.
I also bought a “love” candle. I’m a romance writer, so the “love” candle and “love” stone spoke to me on that level. Of course they spoke to me on a personal level, too.
The final item I purchased was a bundle of sage for smudging. Smudging is a Native American ritual that consists of burning the herb and fanning the smoke to cleanse a person, place or object. I have two grown children with Native blood (from my ex’s side). They are registered with the Muscogee Creek Nation. Obviously, I’ve been close to the Native culture for many years.
The current man in my life is Native, as well. I blogged about him on my site. If you’re curious to see a photo of him (it’s an art nude), click here http://cheriefeather.blogspot.com/2011/11/online-warrior.html. For me, he’s a magical man-- a dear friend, an artist, a model, and my muse.
So, what does magic mean to you? I think it can be anything you want it to be. Having a romantic friend. Going for a quiet walk. Eating yummy food. Listening to your favorite music. Reading a fairytale. Escaping into the world of a spicy novel.
Speaking of spicy novels, if you’d like to read an excerpt from FERAL, here’s the prologue and first chapter http://cheriefeather.blogspot.com/2011/10/feral-excerpt.html. The sapiya aren’t in this excerpt, but you’ll meet the shapeshifter hero and the mortal woman who’s destined to love him, getting a glimpse into their lives.
In closing, I want to thank Romantic Crush Junkies for inviting me to be a guest blogger and wish everyone a wondrous holiday season filled with beauty and blessings.

His hunger sets her nights on fire...
Late nineteenth century, Mexico. One fateful night Noah Diaz steals into the night to ravage a bold woman. But it’s Noah who finds himself at her mercy. During their savage act, she transforms into a feral mountain lion, leaving him on the brink of death. He survives only to become a lion himself—and immortal.
Noah is now a wealthy man who owns an underground sex club where he and other supernatural beings can indulge in no-holds-barred sensual play among lovers who don’t know the difference. Though Noah has scores of willing victims at the club, it is the thrill of the hunt he desires...
Jenny Lincoln runs a big cat rescue that can barely stay afloat—until a donor offers large sums of money under the condition that she goes to his club. There she learns of a world different from anything she’s ever known or experienced. What at first frightens her, thrills her. It’s clear that she is Noah’s prey, but once she gets a taste, it is Jenny who wants more. And though he’s lured by her insatiable desire, a man as wild as Noah may never be tamed...

I love your books. They are full of passion and my fantasies. Thank you for sharing your stories
If I was one animal I would be a wolf; a lone predator and a pack animal in one, the independence and need for family in one, the threatened and the one who threatens, a soul so misunderstood with a cry/howl so hauntingly lonely yet enchanting.
Tina, hello. Thanks for your wonderful comment. And for your wolf insight. :)
Sorry if my responses are short. Im out of town and am using my phone. Lol. Not good with the phone keyboard.
Personally I would be a Wolf - they are so loyal to the family and wonderfully predatory at the same time :D
Hi ilona...a loyal wolf! Two wolves so far! Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment.
Hi Sheri,
Thank you so much for spending time with us at Saucy & Sinful Reviews.
When you asked the question, Do You Believe In Magic two things went through my mind: I kept hearing The Lovin' Spoonfuls song bopping in me head and yes, I do believe that there is magic all around us.
I definitely believe that we also make our own magic in how we act and treat each other. That whole karam thing 'what goes around comes around' is a very apt saying.
I love DEMONIC so I knew when Jessica from Berkley Heat sent me a review copy of FERAL I would love it; I am!
Curious to know what it is about the lion, tiger, mountain lion that you used it as a shape shifter?
Before reading FERAL, I would have jumped on the whole wolf shifter, but now I am really fascinated on how you have portrayed both the man/lion dynamic.
All the best,
Christine
Christine! I thought of that song, too! I have a bit of a background with exotic cats since my ex worked with them. Ive done lots of mountain lion research over the years. Ill be blogging about it later this month. Im in a movie theatre right now. gotta shut my phone off. Hugs!
Thank you again, Christine, for giving me the opportunity to connect with you and your followers on this site. Guess what movie I saw tonight? Breaking Dawn, and I saw it in an over 21 theatre where they serve wine and beer and dinner. Beautiful place with living-room-style recliner chairs and a fireplace. Cool experience. Id love to have one of my books made into a movie and have people enjoy it that way. That would be magic!
Sheri, I love your work. You have inspired me more than you will ever know. I finally have my own laptop so I will be getting back to working on my novel your books inspired me to write.
If I was to become an animal it would be a white eagle. I was recently told by a Native American elder that what I thought was a dream I was having one night was actually a vision. I was watching two white eagles soaring above me. He said my totem animal is a white eagle & my Native American name is Tali Wohali. The beautiful white eagle signifies peace, and eagles are warriors which I feel I am a warrior to have lived the life I have and still be alive.
Randi,
thank you so much. It's wonderful to hear from you. Your totem animal and the way you feel about your life and the strength you have acquired is beautiful. Hugs to you.
I love shapeshifter stories and this one sounds great and very hot. If I could turn into any animal, it would be a white tiger. They are beautiful and powerful, and I love cats.
